Feeding Tomorrow: Reimagining Humanity’s Most Urgent Crisis
As the global community works toward the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, hunger remains one of the greatest unmet challenges. According to the World Food Programme’s 2025 Global Outlook, more than 343 million people across 79 countries face acute food insecurity, and nearly 2 million people are at risk of famine. Meanwhile, WFP is grappling with a 40% drop in funding compared to the previous year—jeopardizing operations in 28 of the world’s most critical crisis zones, including Sudan, Gaza, Haiti, and the Sahel.
Yet even amid this sobering reality, this is a time for transformation. The future of food assistance must be reimagined—not just as a mechanism for survival, but as a foundation for equity, dignity, and sustainable development.
This event, held in observance of World Hunger Day, brought together thought leadership and field experience to reflect on the past, critique the present, and co-create new visions for the future.
Ms. Rania Dagash-Kamara, Assistant Executive Director of the World Food Programme, and Ms. Halka Otto, Senior Liaison Officer at the FAO Liaison Office to the UN in New York, joined us for an urgent and deeply human conversation on the global hunger crisis, which affects over 343 million people worldwide.
We explored how food systems must evolve not only to be efficient but also inclusive, resilient, and rooted in dignity. From humanitarian response to long-term solutions, our panelists shared powerful insights on women’s leadership, youth innovation, and the importance of building systems that serve people, especially the most vulnerable.
We closed with the question: What gives you hope? Their answers reminded us that even in the face of global crisis, community resilience, local leadership, and collective action are paving the way forward.
