SHAPING TOMORROW: FUTURES THINKING IN GLOBAL AFFAIRS
10 DECEMBER 2025: Shaping Tomorrow: Futures Thinking in Global Affairs left us pondering the shadows of uncertainty—whether global war loomed, what the multilateral system might become by 2050, or if the Sustainable Development Goals would ever see 2030 fulfilled. We reflected on how futures thinking had freed us from reactive crises, inviting us to envision branching paths of rivalry or renewal, climate peril or green promise, AI empowerment or disruption, and to trace the echoes of today’s choices into tomorrow’s world. Through insights from UN experts like Ms. Ayaka Suzuki, Dr. Azeema Adam, and futurist Sinead Bovell, the discussion illuminated how this approach had fortified multilateralism, fostering agile institutions and collective foresight that empowered individuals and communities to shape resilient global outcomes.
